Web Based Databases. -- Using MySQL & PHP.
MySQL is an 'open source' relational database management system which has more than 11 million installations worldwide.
The program runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases.
PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is used to 'interact' with a MySQL database and is especially suited
for the development of dynamic web applications. It generally runs on a web server, taking PHP code as its input and creating web pages as
output. PHP is installed on more than 20 million websites and 1 million web servers. Both MySQL and PHP are usually installed on a
web server, but can also be installed locally on most standard operating systems.
Why you should consider using a web based MySQL/PHP database application.
- Universal access to your data, always live, no synchronisation issues.
- No specialist client side software required, only requires a standard web browser.
- Cross-platform compatible, will run on PC, Mac, Linux or hand held devices.
- No expensive software to buy, all software used is 'open source' and is already installed and maintained by your web hosting provider.
- Software is fast, fully featured, very stable and constantly being updated.
- Backups performed automatically by your web hosting provider. Local backups can also be carried out.
- Updates and maintenance can be carried out remotely, thus reducing call-outs and development time.
- Enables you to keep customers updated by allowing them to view live data.
We are currently actively promoting the use of web based database applications and believe that this is the natural progression for database systems. We also feel that the advantages of using open source software for these applications cannot be ignored due to the performance, stability, continued development and financial benefits.
Below are samples of projects which are currently under development by jpg.computer services.
